Pharmacy & Prescription Policy Update

To ensure your pet receives the highest standard of care, we are updating our prescription processing policy to prioritize patient safety, medical accuracy, and continuity of care.

Our Commitment to Safe Medication Management

Maintaining a complete and accurate medical record is essential for your pet’s health. Using our integrated pharmacy options allows medication history, refill information, dosage changes, and potential drug interactions to be documented directly within your pet’s medical record.

In-House & Integrated Pharmacy Purchases (No Prescription Fee)

When medications are purchased through our in-house pharmacy or our partnered online pharmacy, prescription information is updated directly within our medical records system.

For these purchases:

  • No prescription fee applies.
  • Prescription history is tracked automatically.
  • Medication safety monitoring is streamlined and more efficient.

Outside Pharmacy Prescriptions ($12 Annual Fee Per Prescription)

If you choose to fill prescriptions through an outside pharmacy, including Chewy, 1-800-PetMeds, Costco, Walgreens, CVS, or other external pharmacies, a $12 annual prescription administrative fee will apply to each prescription.

This fee helps cover the professional time required for:

  • Veterinarian review of medical history, laboratory results, and current medications.
  • Preparation of written prescriptions.
  • Manual documentation and reconciliation within your pet’s permanent medical record.
  • Verification of prescription accuracy and treatment safety.

Written Prescriptions Only

To reduce the risk of communication errors and ensure accurate documentation, our hospital provides physical written prescriptions only for outside pharmacy use.

Please note:

  • Prescriptions must be picked up in person.
  • We do not provide verbal authorizations to outside pharmacies.
  • We do not approve third-party fax or electronic prescription requests.
  • All outside pharmacy prescriptions must originate directly from our hospital.

This policy helps us maintain accurate records, reduce medication errors, and ensure the safest possible care for your pet.
