Dr. Amanda Houk

DVM

For over 12 years, my first dog, Princess, was my best friend and confidant. From a young age, I recognized the profound bond between people and their pets, and by the time I was 10, I knew I wanted to become a veterinarian. This early understanding fueled my passion for veterinary medicine, and I spent my high school years volunteering at local veterinary clinics and animal shelters, further solidifying my commitment to this profession.

I earned my Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2013. My career began in Emergency Medicine in Ann Arbor, where I honed my skills and deepened my love for both animals and the people who care for them. After several years in emergency care, I decided to transition to general practice in Holt, Michigan, with the goal of fostering deeper, more meaningful relationships with both my patients and their families.

I feel incredibly fortunate to have achieved my lifelong dream of becoming a veterinarian and am honored by the trust my clients place in me. I deeply value the long-term relationships I build with my clients as we work together to ensure their pets receive the highest standard of care, always with kindness, compassion, and respect.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time at home with my 2 year old daughter, Emma as well as my four dogs—Bruce, Wilma, Bam Bam, and Pebbles. You might also find me at the local gym with my husband, Tom. Whenever possible, I love to take an annual getaway to a warm destination to recharge.

Taylor Carey

Veterinary Assistant

Hello, my name is Taylor, and I have had the privilege of being part of the team at Willoughby for the past four years. With a deep-rooted passion for animals, I have always been driven to pursue a career that allows me to make a meaningful impact on the lives of both animals and their families. I recently completed my Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science and am currently working toward my certification through Michigan State University’s Veterinary Technician Program. My academic journey has equipped me with a solid foundation in animal care, and I am committed to continuing my education as I advance in the veterinary field.

Beyond my studies, I have a lifelong connection to animals, having grown up assisting with my grandparents’ dairy farm, where I care for a variety of cows. This experience has instilled in me a strong work ethic and an understanding of animal husbandry that extends to all species. At home, I am a proud pet owner of three cats, who have become cherished members of my family.

In addition to my veterinary pursuits, I am actively involved in my family’s business, CT Performance, which specializes in drag racing. I have the unique opportunity to travel internationally to various racing events, where I race a CTS-V Cadillac. This experience has allowed me to develop valuable skills in precision, teamwork, and perseverance, which I carry over into my veterinary work.

Looking ahead, my goal is to attend veterinary school after completing my current educational program, with the aspiration of one day working alongside Dr. Houk. I am truly fortunate to work in an environment where I am surrounded by a team of dedicated and compassionate professionals. The collaborative atmosphere at Willoughby has been invaluable in shaping my growth, and I am grateful for the opportunity to contribute to the well-being of our patients every day.

As I continue to learn and grow, I am excited about the future and the opportunity to make a lasting difference in the veterinary field. Working with both animals and people has always been my passion, and I look forward to helping improve the lives of pets and their families for many years to come.

Megan Green

Veterinary Assistant

Hello! My name is Megan, and I have had the pleasure of working as a veterinary assistant at Willoughby since June 2021. My role allows me to combine my passion for animals with my dedication to providing the best care possible for our patients. I truly enjoy the opportunity to work alongside a team of skilled professionals, helping to ensure the well-being of the animals we treat.

When I’m not at work, you can usually find me enjoying the great outdoors. I love camping, fishing, and anything involving a vehicle with an engine. Whether it’s exploring nature or just taking in the beauty of the world around me, I make sure to spend as much time as I can outside.
Originally from a small town in Northern Michigan, I now call an even smaller community just north of here my home. I share my life with my newborn son, 3 beloved cats—Tilly, Tito, and Timon—and a playful pit mix puppy named Jax, who always keeps me on my toes.

I’m grateful for the opportunity to work at Willoughby, where I continue to grow in my veterinary career while enjoying the chance to build relationships with both animals and their owners.
